Your nose is half of the setup
With the mouthpiece in, you breathe through your nose. Most nights that's easy. On the nights it isn't, a narrow or stuffy nose makes you want to open your mouth, and the mouthpiece starts to feel like the problem.
These soft vents sit just inside your nostrils and gently hold them open, so air comes in through your nose with less effort.
The mouthpiece works at the back of your throat by holding your jaw slightly forward. The vents work at the front of your nose. Different job, so they don't overlap.
Three reasons people add them
Worth it, or not
Add them if: your nose often feels narrow or blocked at night, or you tend to wake up with your mouth open.
Skip them if: you already breathe easily through your nose. The mouthpiece doesn't need them to work.
For comfort and easier nasal airflow. Not a treatment for sleep apnea or any medical condition. If your nose is fully blocked from a cold or allergies, take a night off from the mouthpiece, and check with your doctor if it keeps happening.
